This weekend, graduate employees affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers will be descending upon East Lansing, Michigan for four days of training, information sharing, and networking, all part of the Alliance of Graduate Employee Locals (AGEL) conference. The conference will acquaint new activists with the nuts-and-bolts of trade unionism while providing more seasoned unionists with opportunities to share ideas on strategic organizing and around issues ranging from providing access to employees with disabilities to how to make campuses more green. A highlight of the weekend will be a chance for graduate employee activists to hear from and chat with AFT Executive Vice President Lorretta Johnson.
The graduate employee movement is a fantastic example of what an on-the-ground commitment to continuous organizing can accomplish for union members, and AFT is proud to help sponsor AGEL as a means by which this commitment can be passed on to new activists.
