FACE Toolkit

Welcome to the FACE Toolkit.  Below you will find tips, tools and materials to help you develop a positive and effective FACE campaign.

The Toolkit is divided into five categories:

  • Research and Data: In this section you will find the National Data sheet, individual tables and charts that can be used in presentations, reports and links to other research to help you gain a better understanding of the extent of the instructional staffing situation in our colleges and universities.
  • Getting the Word Out: Whether you are putting together a legislative hearing, dealing with the press, or putting an advertisement in your local newspaper, this section of the Toolkit has what you need. If you are holding a FACE event, make sure you let us know so we can help you get the word out!
  • Mobilizing Your Members: The FACE campaign is fueled by activists who are committed to doing whatever it takes to help legislators and the public understand that we need to change the way we staff our colleges and universities. This section includes materials to help you engage your members and fellow activists, whether that be around a bargaining campaign, a legislative campaign or even just a campus community education program.
  • Just Ask!: Just Ask aims to bring more external awareness to the FACE campaign as well as to educate more of the AFT’s membership about FACE. Just Ask! reaches out to parents, counselors and students by asking them to start putting some pressure on colleges and universities to end the harmful trend toward using more underpaid and overworked part-time faculty. On this page, you can learn more about Just Ask, download the questions to ask instructors and college reps, and request copies of the Just Ask! brochure.
  • Accreditation Info:  We are often asked whether or not accreditation agencies have standards regarding academic staffing.  In this section, you will find what each of the regional accreditation agencies have by way of such standards (as well as what they don't have).

If you don’t find what you are looking for here in the Toolkit, or if you have any questions or need help with local implementation of FACE, make sure you contact us.
